About Us

Updated as on March 19, 2020: The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli is known as NIT Trichy or NIT- Tiruchirappalli is a Deemed University. it was erected by the collaboration of jointly the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1964 at the Tanjore Main Road, NH 67, Near BHEL Trichy, Tiruchirappalli of the Tamil Nadu state. It was set up with the intention to provide excellent knowledge and experience to its students which are needs to modern society and nation.  The campus of the institute is sprawling in the area of 800 areas of land.

The institute had received approval with University Grants Commission / All India Council for Technical Education and Government of India in 2003. The institute has the intent to confer teaching and research in the field of engineering, science, technology and management for the advancement of teaching and research. It is offering undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and modular programs in multi-disciplinary

Currently, the institute (NIT-T) is offering ten undergraduate courses and twenty-six postgraduate courses in various curriculums in the branches of Science, Engineering, and Technology.

Ranking of NIT- Tiruchirappalli

In 2007, NIT Trichy was declared as an institute of national importance for excellence education by the Government of India. The QS World University Rankings ranked NIT Trichy 211 in Asia, 126 among BRICS nations and 29 in India in the 2019 ranking.

In 2019, the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli has made a self-identification on the National level by being ranked first among all the NITs and 12th among all the technical institutes across India by the Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Government of India.  The institute awarded national level awards from FICCI for social responsibility and also got ASSOCHAM for the best institute.

 Application Process

Applicants who have aspired to pursue any courses under the institute are first necessary to apply with scheduled registration fees by online mode as candidates will be not allowed at the exam center who has not applied for an entrance exam.

Admission Process

There are several entrance exams that are conducted for various curriculums. NIT-T accepts admission to successful students who have qualified in the entrance exams. Entrance exams are variable according to all disciplines which are below:

Admission to Undergraduate Programs is based on standard +2 / other Qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). Admission to postgraduate Programs is based on the scores in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and the admission to candidates is taken through the Counseling process for M.Tech. / M.Arch./ M.Plan. Admissions to M.Sc. Programs are based on merit in entrance test which is conducted by the Institute and the qualifying degree examination marks. Admission to MBA is based on the scores in the Common Admission Test (CAT) examinations. Admission to the MCA program is based on the scores in NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET). Admission to Master of Science (By Research) is based on the scores in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.

The shortlisted candidates who have appeared in the entrance exams are invited to appear for a technical and personal interview by the Departmental Research Committee of the institute.

Training & Placement Cell: The institute has a placement and training cell which is committed to fulfilling its responsibility. The institute has also intended to make capable and strengthened to its students based on modern society as well as the nation’s needs. So, it interacts continuously with the biggest organization/entrepreneurs and forwards its feedback of their curriculums to industries to ensure that all curriculums are followed to students according to the latest requirements of the organizations.

It also updates the job profile of the companies and thus helps each student with the purpose to provide job opportunities. The institute conducts campus program every year with a view to the selection of the aspirants where several entrepreneurs visit campus and talented students are selected. Over 220 companies participate in the placement process every year.
