About Us

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee properly known as IIT Roorkee which has been formed as the seventh Indian Institute of Technology across India in the year 1847 at the Roorkee - Haridwar Highway, Roorkee of the Uttarakhand state. Its former name was the College of Civil Engineering. The main campus in Roorkee has been sprawling in an area of 365 acres of land. It is especially renowned for higher technical and management education in India. The institute had organized with the purpose to impart excellent education to its candidates under management and engineering curriculums through its specific faculty. It has the intent to provide globally based oriented education to IIT’s students.

Since its existence, the Indian Institute of Technology – Roorkee has focused especially in the field of engineering, Applied Research along with higher technology with a purpose to make enable and reinforce its learner. 

The institute was shifted into IIT on September 21, 2001which the Government of India declared it as the seventh Indian Institute of Technology across India for “Institution of National Importance”.

IIT Roorkee offers several programs like B.Tech, B. Architecture, Management, Applied Science, and planning.

IIT Roorkee was placed 383 in the QS World University Rankings in the year 2020. It was ranked 501-600 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2020.

Application process

Candidates who have aspired to pursue B. Tech or B. Arch Courses are needed to apply for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main). if they have not registered their application, they will be not allowed for the entrance exam at the examination center. The exam is conducted by all the seven IIT's at various exam centers across India.

Admission Procedure

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT, Roorkee) accepts admission to the candidates on the basis of the qualifying exam (JEE Main). Only qualified students are taken admission at the institute. Check JEE Main Notice 2020.

Selection Process

Qualifying students in the entrance exam are shortlisted for the next process of the admission i.e. Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, Personal Interview and in the consequent of the final process of the admission, eligible candidates are determined to admission at the institute.

Fee Structure

M. Arch and M. Tech course fees have been scheduled for Rs. 25,000 per annum. While the fee structure for MBA at IIT Roorkee has been fixed of Rs. 1,00,000 per annum. Fee structures for different courses are variable.
