About Us

Anna University, a public state university named after the demise of  Dr.C.N.Annadurai which was former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu founded on 4th September 1978 at Guindy, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is situated in the southern part of the city of Chennai 3 kilometers from the nearest Railway Station Guindy and 10 kilometers from Chennai Airport. It has got affiliation with the University Grants Commission. The University's Main Campus of the university has been sprawling with an area of 189 acres. The Madras Institute of Technology at Chrompet constitutes the second campus of the University which expands more than an area of 52 acres.

A 3rd campus extending over 5 acres is located at Taramani, Chennai. It imparts oriented education as a various discipline in the field of Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Applied Sciences with a vision to fulfill all needs of the society.

The year was 2001 when Anna University (AU) was converted as an affiliated University by bringing together all the Engineering Colleges in the Tamil Nadu state and was again reconverted later as the unitary type in 2010.

Anna University offers 29 Under Graduate and 90 Post Graduate Programs with various disciplines in the University Departments and 41 Under Graduate and 57 Post Graduate programs in Affiliated Institutions.

World University Ranking (QS) In World University Ranking Anna University has got place 201 as per QS in the Faculty of Engineering and Chemical in 2017-2018. In the field of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering, Anna University has ranked between 151 and 200 at the global level and 7 at the national level.

The AU has received various National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking among various Universities/Institutions that took part in the NIRF 2017 in India which details are below:

Candidates are mandatory to register their application with making payment of scheduled registration fees through online mode at the university with a view to entering in the qualifying exam.
