Sarbananda Sonowal as CM candidate for Assam Assembly elections

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday announced Sarbananda Sonowal as  chief minister candidate for upcoming Assam Assembly elections 2016.
The decision was taken by Parliamentary Board of the party in a meeting held at New Delhi. The people of Assam know Sarbananda Sonowal as a ‘National hero’. The parliamentary board has decided that the party will fight the Assam polls in his leadership National secretary Shrikant Sharma, said. 53-year-old Sonowal currently took independent charge of Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry. Sonowal was All Assam Students Union president and AGP leader before joining BJP in 2011. In the meeting, the board led by Modi felicitated Shah following his election as the party president for a fresh term with the prime minister hoping that he will lead it to more successes in the future.
