Railways launches mission Retro-fitment, coaches to be made more secured, comfortable

NEW DELHI : The Indian Railways has announced for reconstruction of 40,000 coaches under Retro-fitment mission. The Indian Railways has also planned to make 80 per cent of the coaches secured and comfortable under this mission . To make Indian Railways more secure, centre buffer coupler will be installed in 35,000 old coaches and 15,000 new ICH coaches. Its installation will avoid coaches to pile on each other in case of a collision and will avoid loss of lives.
Under the mission Retro-fitment, interiors of coaches will also be changed. The deadline for this mission has been set at year 2022-23. The budget is Rs 15,000 crore, Railways has already stopped production of ICF coaches. After this, only LBS coaches will be manufactured in the country. Besides it, Indian Railways’s new coaches will be launched for handicapped people. The interiors of the coaches will be designed keeping in the mind the requirements of differently-abled. Toilets facilities will be also available in coaches.
