Navratri festival 2017: worship of Goddess Shailputri, the first form of Durga begins today

NEW DELHI: The
NAVRATRI festival is the great festival for Hindu religion which is celebrated every year in India. This year, The first day of Navratri begins on September 21,2017 (Thursday).
Navratri comes from the Sanskrit word
nava which means
nine and
ratri denotes
night. During this festival of nine nights, the nine forms of Shakti known as Navdurga are worshiped across the country.
On this day,
Mata Shailputri, the first form of
Navdurga is worshiped by all devotees with a huge curiosity including love and affection. Devotees of Mata Durga , worships nine form of
Goddess Durga for nine days.
Maa Shailputri has a half moon in her forehead. She is holding a trident (Trishul) in her right hand and lotus flower in her left hand. She rides on Nandi a bull.
It is said that Shailaputri the first form of Goddess Durga was the daughter of the mountain(shaila). She was born in the house of King of Mountains
“Parvat Raj Himalaya”, so she is called “Shailaputri”. She is also known as Hemavati and Parvati.
On the occasion of Navratra, on the first day of Navdurga, devotees worship Goddess Shailputri with flower, joss stick, different types of fruit and garlands. They worship and burn the candle both time- morning and evening.
They also demand bless for their family’s healthy, prosperity and happily life from Goddess Durga after end of worship.
They also offer all fragrant flowers, fruits, gems, cloths, coconut fruit and betel leaf.
