Muharram 2018: Islamic community celebrate Muharram today

NEW DELHI: The Muharram is a great festival for Muslim community. The festival of Muharram known as the first month of the Islamic calendar for Muslims which is celebrated every year by Islamic community on the marks of mourn over demise of Hussain Ibn Ali who was the son of Ali and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad killed at the Karbala battle.

Karbala is a renowned placeof pilgrimage in Iraq. Till the end, he fought the army of Yazid I and was finally killed in the battle. The 10th day of Muharram, the Day of Ashura, is an occasion to remember the brave sacrifice of Hussain. It is also considered as a beginning of Islamic Year. This year, the Muharram is being celebrated on September 21, Friday everywhere. Muharram is celebrated in the memory of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain by the community of Shia Muslims, which starts mourning from the first night of Muharram and will continue for the next 2 months and 8 days. The people of this community wears black clothes on the opening day of Muharram and presents prayers. On the tenth day, Shia Muslims take out processions at streets in each parts of every states by walking barefoot. They take out a huge procession over mourning of Hussain demise.
