NEW DELHI: Dalit protesters had started the nationwide strike on April 2 (Monday) against dilution of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act (SC/ST) in which at least 9 people lost their life in different parts of the country while several people were injured. After the violence, Section 144 has been imposed in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut in wake of control the situation.
According to report, in the Uttar Pradesh state, two people were killed in the Dalit protest during Bharat Bandh while many more policemen injured. Eventualy, government has suspended the internet services till 2 pm with the view to make peaceful circumstances.
“During the Bharat bandh, violence erupted in UP’s Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Meerut, Agra and they were the most affected areas.
Apart from this, according to latest violence report, at least 448 persons have been detained in different districts. There were no incidents in 90 per cent of districts. We have sounded a high-alert in the state,” DIG, Law and Order Praveen Kumar said.
The Army and paramilitary forces were also put on standby in Punjab. Normal life was affected in several parts of Bihar, Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat too.
