Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah declares free education to girls till post-graduation

NEW DELHI: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced free education to all the girls up to post-graduation those want to study in government institutions in the state. The decision has been taken by Karnataka CM in order to create both the curiosity and encourage girl child in the education sector. During the presenting the Budget for 2018-19, Chief Minister said, “Rs 95 crore of the budget would be spent on providing free education for all the girl students taking admission in government pre-university, degree including post-graduation courses.”
It is expected that at least a total of 3.7 lakh girl students will get benefit under this provision. In 2017, the Karnataka government had declared free education for girls studying in class 1 up to graduation in government schools and government aided-private schools from the 2018-19 academic session. Presenting his 13th state budget, CM Siddaramaiah said, “A total of Rs. 4,514 crore is being provided for higher education in 2018-19.” During 2018-19, at least 100 ‘Karnataka Public Schools’ will be opened across the state in which at least Rs 5 lakh would be spent per school, and a total expenditure of Rs 5 crore, he said.
