NEW DELHI: The Holi festival known as ' Phaguwah ' is the greatest festival for Hindu religion which is celebrated once in every year in India by the people with a huge curiosity after a day of the Hindi month Falgun Purnima (full moon) according to Hindu’s tradition. It is also known as a  colourful festival. According to mythology, It is believed that Prahlad son of demon king Hiranyakashipu was the devotee of Lord Vishnu while Hiranyakashipu did not want to so. Therefore, he gave his son to Holika to kill them and thus she had entered to take Prahlad into the fire. But Holika was burnt to death with the help of God Vishnu while Prahlad was saved. The story of Holika Dahan has marked the victory of good over evil. After Holika death, this celebration began since that day. It is also believed that the spring festival signifies the victory of good over evil and end of winter. Many also take the opportunity to meet each other, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and also repair broken relationships. In rural areas, Holi is also considered to be a thanksgiving for a good harvest. The festival brings with it a lot of joy, happiness and hopes to millions celebrating it. This year, Holi will be celebrated on Friday, March 2,2018. The night before will be celebrated as Holika Dahan. People gather to perform religious rituals in front of the bonfire, and pray that their internal evil is destroyed the way Holika, the sister of the demon king Hiranyakashipu, was killed in the fire. The next morning is all about fun, dance and making merry. People throw water-balloons at each other. Nowadays, there is also a growing trend of playing a ‘Dry Holi’.
