J&K: According to official statement, Mobile internet services on Thursday have been suspended in all parts of Kashmir as a precautionary measure to prevent anti-social elements from spreading
“malicious rumours” in the result of the Kupwara violence.
Internet services were unavailable to mobile subscribers in Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora including Ganderbal districts. Residents of Srinagar and South Kashmir also said they were unable to access mobile internet services in the morning. Officials said it was a temporary measure that would be withdrawn as soon as the situation returns to normal.
The latest casualty was a man who was killed when police used tear gas shells to disperse a violent crowd in North Kashmir on Wednesday. Authorities issued a curfew in parts of Srinagar and Handwara, but couldn’t contain the violent agitations that came out when thousands turned up at the funeral of three civilians who had died earlier in Kupwara district.
The violence had first came out at Handwara on Tuesday, when police fired at a mob that had gathered to protest the alleged molestation of a local girl by an army man.
