Earthquake jolts in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar, no loss of any life


NEW DELHI: An earthquake (Bhukamp) measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale stroked Assam on September 12, Wednesday morning.

The shiver of the earth were also felt for at least 25 to 30 seconds in Siliguri, Kolkata of West Bengal state including Purnea, Araria Patna, Kisanganj, Sahebjang, Khagaria in Bihar and Hazaribag in Jharkhand, in which there is no report of any loss of property or life till now.

The quake had latitude of 26.4 N, 90.1 E longitudes and a depth of 13 km.

Apart from these earthquake, shiver of the earth were also felt today in separately two states –Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The first earthquake jolted Jammu and Kashmir at 5:15 am. The quake measured 4.6 on the Richter scale.

According to India Meteorological Department, the quake had a latitude of 35.6° N, longitude of 76.3 E and a depth of 174 kilometers while, another earthquake of magnitude 3.1 on the Richter scale, stroked at Haryana’s Jhajjar, at around 5:43 am.
