Delhi Environment: EPCA directed to remove ban on entry of trucks and construction works

NEW DELHI : Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) on November 16, Thursday issued directions removing ban on entry of trucks, construction works including four-time hike in parking fees in Delhi.
EPCA in Delhi on November 8 directed to hold prompt on civil construction works and banned the entry of trucks, except those carrying essential goods, in the city. EPCA announced that pollution levels have jumped on the sky .
The decisions were approved by Lt Governor Anil Baijal in a meeting at Delhi. The meeting took place in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Environment Pollution Prevention and Control Authority member Sunita Narain.
During the meeting, the Supreme Court-appointed EPCA, which is empowered to enforce the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), said it has decided to ramp up the plan to ‘severe plus’ in view of the prevailing smog episode.
“Emergency meeting on pollution with CM Arvind Kejriwal. Measures approved include ban on entry of trucks, civil construction, school holidays till weekend, hike in parking fees & higher frequency of metro & buses,” the LG office tweeted.
On Tuesday, the EPCA had directed authorities to implement measures under the GRAP’s ‘tragedy’ category.
