New Delhi :-Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt on Thursday walked free from Pune ' s Yerwada Central Jail after 42 months. He was sentenced for five years after being convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case.
Sanjay Dutt’s friends also registered their happiness over the release. “I know Sanju (Dutt) on a personal level, and I’m delighted that he will finally return home in one-two days to his family and friends... We’ve been waiting eagerly for the day, and we have always been praying for his safety,” Manoj said at a promotional event for “Aligarh” here last evening. Rajkummar Rao says he is happy with Dutt’s release as he has “respectfully” completed his jail term. Dutt’s release on February 25 will be 103 days ahead of the end of his full prison term. Before the Supreme Court upheld his conviction in 2013, he had spent 18 months in jail during the investigation and trial phase. Actor Sanjay Dutt walked out from Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail with mere Rs 450 today. Dutt earned Rs 440 for making paper bags and Khakhi envelopes in the prison. As per prison reports, convicted person is assigned with a works for which he can develop a skill and utilize them post release to earn a living. There are three stages – unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled labour with a pay of Rs 45, Rs50 and Rs55 respectively. According to jail officer, "Dutt was initially given the job of making paper bags from newspapers. He was trained by a team of experts, and was tagged as an unskilled labour. Under this, he was paid Rs 45 after preparing 100 paper bags perfectly. Five months ago, he was tasked with preparing Khaki envelopes for a government office and for every 1,000 envelopes he used to get R50. He took two-three weeks to complete these tasks." Sanjay Dutt also performed radio jockey in jail but no money will be given for the act.
