39 Indian people taken as captives in Iraq by ISIS

The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday noticed that more than 39 Indians have been taken as captives in Iraq. All of them are still alive and said that the government will take quick steps to secure their release. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said in his meeting on Tuesday, with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and discussed the condition of the Indians taken as prisoners in Iraq and Libya. The PM Modi had advised the Palestinian President to share with him any information he had regarding the captives. Abbas had accepted that information regarding this matter is constantly being transferred between India and Palestine and any new details will be passed on to India immediately, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup told the media. According to Abbas, all captive Indians taken as prisoners are alive so far. In Iraq, a group of 39 Indian construction workers have been held captive by the Islamic State in Mosul for more than a year, despite attempts by the Indian Government to secure their release. Earlier, four Indians had been detained near the Libyan coastal city of Sirte, an area under the control of Islamic State warrior.
