350 Jhuggis destroyed by fire at Mangolpuri in Delhi

At least 350 Jhuggis were destroyed by a huge fire at Mangolpuri area of East Delhi early on Monday at  2 am. The fire department received information by a call about the fire at 2 am. After receiving information about the event the fire, the fire department used 28 fire tenders to struggle the predicable on the spot. According to report of AK Sharma who is the Director of Delhi Fire Service, the fire became under control about at 4 am. "The fire broke out early in the morning and our kids woke us up. The first thing we saw flames inside our house. All we could do was grab and kids and run. Everything has been burnt down from food to clothes to all our belongings ' ' said resident. Deputy Commissioner of police Vikramjit Singh said one person is injuries in this event. Most of the slums in the area were used for storing scrap materials, he said. Officials said the fire spread rapidly because of the scrap materials, including wood, plastic and paper. A plastic godown was also gutted by the blaze. The area was vacated as part of efforts to control the spread of the fire. Sharma said the fire service was working continue with Delhi Police to ascertain the cause of the fire. Singh said the fire may have been probably by an accident or an electrical short circuit.
