NEW DELHI: India celebrates ' Teacher Day ' every year on September 5 on the occasion of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan birthday. Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888. He was a first Vice-President and second President of India. The celebration of Teacher Day begun after his becoming the President of India in 1962.
  History of Teacher’s Day: There is a story behind the celebration of Teacher Day. When Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan became Vice-President of India, some of students including his colleagues have decided to celebrate his birth ceremony, so all of them requested him for allow this celebration. Dr. Radhakrishnan said in reply, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teacher’s day”. Qualification and Experiences: Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan was a philosopher and a teacher. He was a great scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna recipient. India celebrates his birth ceremony as ' Teacher Day ' on 5 September by paying tribute to its teachersHe got educational qualification at Chennai ' s Presidency College and Calcutta University. He served as Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University from 1931 to 1936. In 1936, Dr Radhakrishnan was invited to fill the Chair of Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at Oxford which he retained for 16 years. Teacher Day Importance: On Teacher ' s Day, students across the India honour the teachers and gurus in their lives. Often, special programmes are held in schools and colleges honouring educators and the important - and often, thankless - work they do daily. Many others offer their teachers greeting cards and hand-made presents. The request showed Dr. Radhakrishnan’s love for the teaching profession.
