Supreme Court appoints Sanjay Mishra as new Lokayukta of UP

Lucknow :-The Supreme Court on thursday appointed former judge of the Allahabad High Court Justice Sanjay Mishra as the Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh.
The Supreme Court Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Prafulla C Pant appointed Mishra as the Lokayukta, while recalling their December 16, 2015 order appointing Justice Virendra Singh for the post. It further stated that Opinion of Chief Justice must be give primacy on appointment of Lokayukta. Before its, Allahabad High Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud objected Justice Virendra Singh for the post. The moves came two days after the SC invoked its constitutional powers and chose Ex- Justice  Virendra Singh as the Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh from a panel of names placed before it. It is to be noted that High Court Chief Justice, Chief Minister and the Leader of Opposition are the three top functionaries who decide on the Lokayukta.
