DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Rurban mission from Dongargarh, about 140 km west of Raipur in Chhattisgarh today.
The Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban project announced previous year by the BJP-Centre is targeted to grow basic infrastructure amenities like power, shelter, roads, drinking water, drainage in rural areas and create community assets like quality schools, colleges, health centres and other social facilities. The Rurban scheme, that replaces the UPA government’s Provision of Urban amenities in Rural areas initiative, is highlighted on creating clusters of villages for development in the given region with the population ranging from 25,000 to 60,000. In an attempt to minimise rural migration to cities, the skill development will assume a focal point in the Rurban project. According to the officials, around 300 clusters are going to come up across the nation under the Rurban project. To begin with, in Chhattisgarh such clusters will be constituted in four districts of Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Kawardha and Bastar. Multi-layered security measures have been made for the Prime Minister’s visit to Raipur and particularly at Dogargarh in Rajnandgaon which also happens to be a district affected by Maoist presence. Tight security arrangements put in place will keep a strict vigil in over five square kilometre area adjoining the venue in Dongargarh where Modi will also address a public meeting. Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Prime Minister housing scheme and the electronic manufacturing cluster at Naya Raipur before leaving for Dongargarh. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana over 40,000 EWS and LIG houses will be build towards achieving the goal of housing for all by 2022. The electronic manufacturing cluster will be developed on 70 acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore. The Prime Minister will leave for Bargarh in Odhisa where he will address a public rally and later he will proceed to Kolkata to attend the inauguration of the centenary celebration of Gaudiya Mission and Math in late evening, stated the official press release.
