Maa Durga was born to defeat the demon Mahishasura. So, once Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati combined to incarnate as Goddess Durga with ten-armed who also received gifts and boons from the other gods to defeat demon Mahishasur. All Gods have presented somewhat arms to Devi Skandamata to defeat Mahishasura like God Indra ceded her his vajra, Lord Varuna presented her his conch, Lord Agni gave her a missile or spear, Lord Vayu imparted her a bow and arrows, Lord Vishwakarma prsented her his axe and an armour, while the lord of the mountains gave her a lion. Thus Goddess Skandamata has defeated Mahisasura by the collaboration of Mata Saraswati, Mata Laxami and Devi Parvati.
