Shivaratri is great festival of Shiva and Shakti. It is celebrated on the occasion of Maha Shivratri according to Indian calendar on Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha in month of Magha. Again according to North Indian calendar this is celebrated in the month of Phalgun as a Maha Shivratri. It is celebrated both of them months on same dayas a Maha shivratri. On Shivrari day, devotees do not take food full day. Devotees promise for self-determination throughout the fasting period and beg blessing of Lord Shiva to finish the fast without any disturbance. Hindu fasts are strict and people promise for self-determination and beg God blessing before starting them to finish them successfully. Shiva Puja should be done during night and devotees break the fast next day after taking bath. Devotees break the fast between sunrise and before the end of Chaturdashi Tithi to get maximum benefit of the Vrat. It is celebrated everywhere in different states with very pleased. Particularly, it is celebrated by ladies and girls at many places. Lord Shiva appear on the earth during to break the fast second day as a Linga form.
