NEW DELHI: 48-year-old Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday, March 9 takes oath as the new Tripura chief minister at the Assam Rifles ground in Agartala where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah including all Chief Ministers of BJP led states were also present.
The oath-taking ceremony ook place amid tightened security at the ceremony venue in the state. PM Narendra Modi, president Amit Shah and all the chief ministers of BJP-ruled states in the northeastern state have been invited to attend the ceremony.
Biplab Deb was born on 25 November 1969 in Rajdhar Nagar village in Gomati district of Tripura state.He has been the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura since 7 January 2016.
The event shall be a historic one in the political landscape of the North East state as for the first time Bhartiya Janata Party is making the government in the Left bastion.
The Left Front leaders will boycott the swearing-in of the BJP-led government. Although, it is believed that outgoing chief minister Manik Sarkar and elected leaders of the Communist Party of India-Marxist will be attending the oath ceremony.
The BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) alliance romped home to power in the state last week, bringing an end to the 25 years of uninterrupted rule of the CPI(M)-led Left Front. The BJP won 35 of the 59 seats that went to polls in Tripura, dethroning the CPI(M) which won only in 17 Assembly constituencies.
