Raj Kundra, were suspended from participating in the Indian Premier League for two years by Justice Lodha Panel on Sunday, for the betting activities of their key officials
Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra during the 2013 season.
The Committee also imposed sanctions including life suspensions for Meiyappan and Kundra from being involved in any cricket matches conducted by
BCCI.
The punishment was handed down by a Supreme Court with appointed three-member committee conducted by former CJI RM Lodha which held that the betting activities of the two officials, Meiyappan, considered the face of
CSK owners, and Kundra, co-owner of Rajasthan Royals, have brought the game of cricket, BCCI and Indian Premier League into defamation.
Suspending Meiyappan for life from being involved in activities related to any type of cricket matches, Lodha said, "Meiyappan was seen as the face of CSK. He ought not to have indulged in corrupt practices," He added that any person who has true passion for the game will never be involved in provision.
"He is found guilty of betting, his conduct affected image of BCCI, the league and the game. ," he said. Lodha said If Meiyappan ' s reputation is tarnished, it is small compared to the damage done to cricket.
