Ganesha Chaturthi (Ganpati Puja) is the important festival for Hindu religion which is celebrated in the western part of the country. Particularly, it is most important festival for Mumbai people, which is celebrated by people with greatly curiosity and fraternal feeling. This festival runs around 10 days. It is known that Lord Ganesha is the son of God Shankar which ends the all types of obstacles. In the other words, he is God of obstacles. He protects their devotees from each obstacles. He was got married with Riddhi and Siddhi. This festival is celebrated all over in India on the occasion of birthday of Lord Ganesha, the destroyer of obstacles. We call it as the name of Ganpati Bappa,Lambother, Uma sut, Shiv nandan too. It is celebrated every year in the Hindi month of Bhadrapad and ends  10th days. The festivities culminate on the tenth day, which is called Ananta Chaturdashi. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi falls on 5th September 2016.Ganesha Puja in India Some important Things about the festival : # An idol of Bappa, as he is lovingly called, is brought into almost every Hindu Maharashtrian household. # Here he is placed in a position of respect (sthapna), often on a raised platform, sometimes even a throne. # The idol is adorned with new clothes and treated like a treasured guest. # Devotees feeds him pure water with honey and milk. # People invite friends and family to come and pay their respects to Ganpati Bappa. # Pujas are performed twice a day for as long as the idol is home. # On the last day, idol of Ganesha carried and immersed into water of sea, rivers or lakes. # The final visarjan day is when all the celebrations are at their peak. Mumbai comes to a standstill and traffic jams are expertly managed by the traffic police. The idols are now seen in various avtaars. The pandals are bigger than ever and the feasts more elaborate. But the core traditions around the festival remain the same.
