EPF is a short name of Employees Provident Fund Organisation of India and the body was made with a mission to build transparency between employee and employers. The step was taken for employee’s secured future. Currently the EPF maintains around 15 crore accounts across India.
The Employees’ Provident Funds Bill was launched in the Parliament as Bill Number 15, 1952 with the purpose of to provide for the institution of provident funds for employees in factories and other establishments.

However, employer and employee contribute 12 per cent of basis salary plus DA (if any) for EPF. 12 per cent deducted amounts from employee’s salary go toward EPF kitty (EPF Kitty is used to withdrawal medical purpose) 8.33% out of the total 12 per cent of the employer’s contribution will be invested for Employee pension scheme. The balance 3.67 per cent is invested in EPF.
How to Check EPF Balance?
It’ll take few minutes your time for EPF account holders to check their EPF Balance. Let’s follow the following steps.
Step 1. Open epfindia website.
Step 2. Click on highlighted button as “e-Passbook”.
Step 3. After clicking on “e-Passbook” the current page will be redirected to another page called “Member Passbook Facility” there after members are required to fill their UAN Number and Password.

Important note for users
- This facility is to view the Member Passbook for the only members who’re registered on the Member Portal only.
- If you’re a new member of EPF then no need to worry, the Passbook will be available on the next day after registration on Member Portal.
