DUSU polls: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad wins top three posts

NEW DELHI: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Saturday has got a big achievement as a three top posts by wining DUSU polls. ABVP candidate Amit Tanwar elected as president while ABVP’s Priyanka Chabri elected as vice president post and Ankit Sangwan of ABVP elected as secretary. Mohit Sangwan of the National Students Union of India has declared for the Joint Secretary post.
On Friday, more than 36 per cent of students cast their vote in the contested DUSU polls with the voting percentage recording a dip of over 7 per cent from last year’s overall turnout of 43.3 per cent. Meanwhile, the students’ council elections also were held in 44 colleges where Congress-affiliated NSUI won the five-member panels in 33 colleges while the BJP’s student wing ABVP emerged victorious in 11 colleges. According to DS Rawat statement which is CEO of DUSU polls, the voting  had finished peacefully with 35.89 per cent of students casting their vote in the morning of polls. “The polling which was conducted in two phases went off smoothly. The maximum turnout of 91 per cent was recorded at the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and the minimum was in Campus Law Centre II at 6.79 per cent,” he said. DUSU elections are largely considered trend setters in the student politics in India.
