Durgashtami 2017: Devotees worship goddess Mahagauri as Maha Ashtami in India today

NEW DELHI: Devotees worship Maha Mahagauri festival on Thursday across the India which the eight form of the nine form of Goddess Durga. Its worship will be start on September 27, 2017 at 7:08 PM and will be end on September 28, Thursday at 9:36PM. This festival comes once in every year which is celebrated 8th day of Navratri. Mata Durga’s devotees celebrate it with a huge passion. It is also known as Mahagauri, Mahashtami and Maha Durgashtami.
It is believed that MahaGauri was born to defeat all evil forces of the universe. Mahagauri has four hands. She holds a damru and a trident in her two hands while the other two hands are held in postures of ‘abhay’ and “varad”. Diya, jasmine flowers and perfume are offered to the goddess. At least, nine Young girls are invited and devotees worship these girls as forms of the goddess. They are offered clothes, fruits, money, and a meal prepared in desi ghee. Devotees keep nine earthern pots in the centre while they begins worship it. It is believed that Mahagauri had started penance to Lord Shiva to get married with him. After severe penance, Devi Mahagauri got Lord Shiva as her husband.
